MIA<\/span>\u00a0PHOTO<\/span>\u00a0FAIR<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n directed by Fabio Castelli and Lorenza Castelli<\/strong><\/p>\n Milan, The Mall \u2013 Porta Nuova Varesine<\/strong><\/p>\n 9 – 12 March 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n The new visual communication project by South African artist Siwa Mgobozais among the new entries of the 8th<\/sup>\u00a0edition of the Italian\u00a0photo<\/span>graphy and moving image art\u00a0fair<\/span>\u00a0MIA<\/span>\u00a0Photo<\/span>\u00a0Fair<\/span>, Italy’s first and only\u00a0fair<\/span>\u00a0dedicated to\u00a0photo<\/span>graphy art, is calling all enthusiasts, collectors, and inquiring minds interested in this contemporary art medium.<\/p>\n The eighth edition of\u00a0MIA<\/span>\u00a0Photo<\/span>\u00a0Fair<\/span>, founded and directed by Fabio Castelli and Lorenza Castelli,\u00a0is beginning to take shape.<\/p>\n First, the dates:\u00a0MIA<\/span>\u00a0Photo<\/span>\u00a0Fair<\/span>\u00a0will run from Friday 9th to Monday 12th<\/sup>\u00a0March 2018.<\/p>\n And the location: for the fourth year running, the show will take place at The Mall in the Porta\u00a0Nuova Varesine district of Milan.<\/p>\n MIA<\/span>\u00a0photo<\/span>\u00a0Fair<\/span>\u00a0is sure to offer plenty of new discoveries, starting with its new visual identity, courtesy of South African artist Siwa Mgoboza (Cape Town, 1993), one of the leading talents on the African art scene.<\/p>\n Siwa Mgoboza’s project belongs to his Les \u00catres D\u2019Africadia series and was selected to represent\u00a0MIA<\/span>\u00a0Photo<\/span>\u00a0Fair<\/span>\u00a02018 in collaboration with the African Artists’ Foundation and Lagos\u00a0Photo<\/span>\u00a0Festival.<\/p>\n Mgoboza, who describes himself as a “post-colonial” hybrid, interprets African culture in his images, portraying himself through figures characteristic of what he terms “Africadia” \u2013 a symbolic space of tolerance and understanding, in contrast with Africa’s conflicts and cultural divergences. Mgoboza’s visions offer a kaleidoscopic expression of heterogeneous identity \u2013 cultural hybrids of indeterminate race and sex.<\/p>\n The fabrics used in the costumes worn by the artist in his\u00a0photo<\/span>graphs draw inspiration from early-19th<\/sup>\u00a0century English textiles, which developed during British colonisation of South Africa.<\/p>\n MIA<\/span>\u00a0Photo<\/span>\u00a0Fair<\/span>\u00a0curatorial board is currently hard at work to ensure that the show meets the high standards that the public has increasingly come to appreciate.
