GALLERIA 291 EST presenta il terzo ed ultimo appuntamento dedicato al COMMONPLACE Series, progetto dedicato ad artisti e giovani curatori che ha visto nelle sue edizioni precedenti le personali di Katrien De Blauwer, a cura di Paola Paleari e Daniela Cotimbo, e di Francesco Ciavaglioli, a cura di Simona Merra.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

COMMONPLACE Series#3, presenta, sabato 31 maggio, la doppia personale a cura di Naima Morelli. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

Questo terzo appuntamento del ciclo dialoga con una realtà artistica distante ma vivacissima, quella australiana, presentando per la prima volta ad un pubblico italiano il lavoro di due artisti emergenti del panorama artistico di Melbourne, Georgina Lee e Kenny Pittock.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

Attraverso i propri lavori i due artisti analizzano la società australiana e le loro vite quotidiane da due prospettive diverse ma complementari.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Georgina Lee lavora in una grande azienda di giorno e come artista di notte. Il suo lavoro critica l’ambiente dell’ufficio, le aspettative e la banalità dei sogni della società australiana. In questo sistema l’individuo è spinto al raggiungimento di un successo rappresentato da traguardi materialistici, come possedere una casa con giardino, un’automobile e vincere un pacchetto vacanze. Nelle sue istallazioni Georgina Lee svela un vuoto sotteso e implicito nell’intero ambiente lavorativo dell’ufficio. Tutto sembra andare per il verso giusto, ma c’è una tensione straziante e taciuta. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Kenny Pittock si concentra invece sui prodotti della cultura pop. Costruendo repliche di oggetti comuni e modificandone la confezione, l’artista ne disarma gli intenti pubblicitari con ironia, minando così l’intero stile di vita ad essi connesso.
\n\tQuesti oggetti dalla texture tremolante, identici all’originale a primo acchito, ma goffi ad un’osservazione più attenta, tradiscono una tenera timidezza. Continuando il discorso cominciato in un altro continente da Magritte, la linguistica invade l’arte contemporanea e gli oggetti svelano i propri inganni.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Durante il periodo della mostra sono previsti dei talk con gli artisti all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma in data da definirsi.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Georgina Lee, nata è nata a Melbourne nel 1984 dove vive e lavora. <\/span><\/i>Dopo una laura in ingegneria e commercio alla Monash University prosegue gli studi all’University of Melbourne e al Victorian College of Arts. Oltre alla sua attività da artista è anche nella commissione dell’artist run space Bus Projects. <\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Kenny Pittock, è nato a Melbourne nel 1988 dove vive e lavora. Si laurea al Victorian College of Arts ed espone in tutta l’Australia. Oltre alla sua attività da artista è stato anche curatore della Kenneth Biennale che si è tenuta contemporaneamente alla TCB Gallery, alla Rearview Gallery e alla Margaret Lawrence Gallery. <\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

On May 31st GALLERIA 291 EST opens COMMONPLACE Series’ third instalment with an exhibition by Georgina Lee and Kenny Pittock, curated by Naima Morelli. <\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

The project aims to be a collaboration between artists and young curators, allowing them to develop their personal research based on the program’s pre-existent structure.  <\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

The third of the COMMONPLACE series showcases the Australian art scene, not well-known in Italy yet, but nonetheless extremely lively, and is the first show in Rome presenting two artists from the emerging Melbournian art scene.<\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Through their work Kenny Pittock and Georgina Lee analyse two different yet complementary sides of Australian society and culture. <\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Georgina Lee explores the amount of time that people spend their lives at work and the appeal and banality of the motivations attached to working in jobs that may pay us well, but do not necessarily love. In a highly individualistic society such as Australia, individuals are driven to achieve monetary success, often marked by a nice house, a respectable car, expensive hobbies and holidays to Bali. The artist’s installations use everyday office objects as metaphors for a means to an end, revealing alongside the emptiness inherent in the entire process. On the other hand Kenny Pittock focuses on pop culture and consumerism. He creates replicas of vernacular objects found in contemporary Australian society, oftentimes using playful humor and sentimentality to modify their aesthetic and logos to disarm the intent of the product itself. Through distorted representation these objects offer a tongue in cheek reference to the origins of pop culture and complexities of consumerism.<\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Throughout the exhibition period artist talks will be hosted at the art academy. Dates are to be advised.<\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Georgina Lee was born in 1984 in<\/st1:metricconverter> Melbourne, where she lives and works. After completing a Bachelor of Engineering and a Bachelor of Commerce at Monash University she continued her studies at University of Melbourne and at the Victorian College of Arts. She has exhibited in a number of solo and group exhibitions in Melbourne. Alongside her artistic practice, she is also on the board of the artist run gallery, Bus Projects. <\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Kenny Pittock was born in 1988 in<\/st1:metricconverter> Melbourne, where he lives and works. He graduated Honors at the Victorian College of Arts and has exhibited in private and public spaces throughout Australia, including at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, in Melbourne, and the Perth Institute for Contemporary Art, in Perth. He has also been the recipient of various awards including the Linden Gallery Prize. In 2013 Pittock was the curator of the Kenneth Biennale, held simultaneously at TCB Gallery, Rearview Gallery and Margaret Lawrence Gallery. <\/span><\/i><\/o:p><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n
