<\/font>Considerato uno dei più importanti astrattisti tedeschi della sua generazione, il lavoro di Förg spazia dalla pittura alla scultura e alla fotografia. <\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n

<\/font>In occasione della mostra saranno presentati una serie di grandi acrilici su tela, tutti realizzati tra il 2005 e il 2006, appartenenti alla fase matura dellartista, nella quale prosegue il suo lavoro di espressione attraverso luso degli stilemi canonici della pittura astratta. La continua intersezione di linee verticali e orizzontali, di cui Mondrian è considerato il padre fondatore, trova spazio sulle tele di Förg offrendosi in una serie di infinite variazioni, giocate attraverso la luminosità e la trasparenza dei colori, la relazione tra pieno e vuoto. <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/font>Il carattere delle sue composizioni è volutamente ambiguo: siamo di fronte a unastrazione geometrica che al contempo evoca la schematizzazione figurativa di edifici, porte, finestre. Non a caso linteresse per larchitettura e i suoi moduli costitutivi è una costante nel lavoro di Förg: come fotografo la sua attenzione si concentra proprio sugli edifici, scegliendo i suoi soggetti tra le architetture del razionalismo italiano e del Bauhaus. <\/o:p><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table><\/div>\n

<\/font>In pittura Förg dichiara una predilezione per luso dellacrilico. Le motivazioni estetiche si intrecciano con le caratteristiche tecniche: lasciando poche tracce della pennellata permette infatti una colorazione piatta e omogenea. Inoltre asciugando rapidamente consente unesecuzione veloce e, anche se fortemente diluito, mantiene un colore piuttosto intenso, corposo. <\/o:p><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table><\/div>\n

<\/font>Per la mostra da Giò Marconi saranno presentate oltre 25 tele di grande formato, tra cui un monumentale lavoro del 2005 che invaderà con i suoi 12 metri<\/st1:metricconverter> di lunghezza una delle sale della galleria. <\/span><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/font>Günther Förg è nato nel 1952 a<\/st1:metricconverter> Füssen, in Germania; vive a Colombier, Svizzera. Tra il 1973 e il 1979 si forma presso l”Akademie der Bildenden Künste” di Monaco, dedicandosi soprattutto alla pittura monocroma; nei primi anni Ottanta sperimenta la scultura creando assemblaggi di lamine di alluminio dipinte e inzia a fotografare le architetture razionaliste, sottolineando I rapporti tra interno ed esterno. Nel 1980 la galleria Rüdiger Schöttle presenta la sua prima mostra personale. Dal 1992 si dedica principalmente alla serie di dipinti e lavori su carta chiamata <\/span>Gitterbilder <\/span><\/i>(grid paintings), le cui origini sono da ritrovare nello schema compositivo dei precedenti <\/span>Fenster-Aquarelle <\/span><\/i>(window watercolors). Negli anni Novanta inizia la sua attività come professore, prima ottenendo la cattedra presso lo ZKM Center for Art and Media di Karsrue (1993) poi allAccademia di Monaco (1998). I lavori di Förg sono stati presentati in diverse istituzioni internazionali, tra cui: Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco (1989), Musée d'Art Moderne, Paris (1991), documenta IX, Kassel (1992), Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (1995), Museo Nacional Centro Reina Sofia, Madrid (1998), Städtisches Museum Abteiberg, Mönchengladbach (1998), Tel Aviv Museum of Art (2003), Kunsthalle, Bremen (2006), Essl Museum, Klosterneuburg (2008), Fondation Beyeler, Basel (2009-2010). <\/span><\/span><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/font>Giò Marconi Gallery is very pleased to announce Günther Förg’s <\/b>first solo exhibition <\/b>“Closer” <\/b>at the gallery<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font>Förg is a well-known figure in the 1980s and a key member of an influential generation of German artists including Martin Kippenberger, Georg Herold and Albert Oehlen. His distinct investigations into Modernism take painterly issues into the realms of architecture, sculpture, and photography to reflect on both individual experience and historical memory.<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font>Günther Förg's artistic oeuvre encompasses paintings, graphic and sculptural works as well as a great body of architectural photographs. His monochrome wall paintings and lead paintings are reflections on art. <\/span>There are references of Barnett Newman, Jean Fautrier, Paul Klee, Edvard Munch and American abstract painting in his works.<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font> <\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font>On display at the gallery will be a series of different sized canvases that were all produced in the years 2005 and 2006. The focal point and most prominent work of the exhibition is a 3-piece canvas from 2005 with a length of 12 meters that will inhabit the gallery's major exhibition room and that is, due to its size, reminiscent of wall paintings.<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font>All the works that are presented in “closer” belong to Förg’s famous "grid painting" series.<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font>Since 1992, paintings and works on paper, known as "Gitterbilder" (grid paintings), appear in Günther Förg's work. The idea and inspiration of these grid paintings derive from paintings such as Munch’s “Death of Marat”, a figurative work whose back- and foreground wholly consists of different coloured abstract grids. Förg is interested in the abstract and radical meaning of paintings of that important period of the 20th<\/sup> century and he is not afraid of using it for his own understanding of art.<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font>Günther Förg was born in Füssen in 1952 and studied at the Akademie der Bildenden <\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font>Kü<\/span><\/em>nste, Munich with Karl Fred Dahmen.<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font>From 1992 until 1999, he taught at the Staatliche Hochschule fuer Gestaltung ZKM in Karlsruhe.  <\/span>Since 1999 Förg has been working as a professor at the Akademie der Bildenden Kü<\/span><\/em>nste in Munich. <\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font>Günther Förg lives and works in Colombier, Switzerland.<\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font>The works of Günther Förg were presented in innumerable international institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco (1989), Musée d'Art Moderne, Paris (1991), Documenta IX, Kassel (1992), Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (1995), Museo Nacional Centro Reina Sofia, Madrid (1998), Städtisches Museum Abteiberg, Mönchengladbach (1998), Kunsthaus Bregenz (2001); Tel Aviv Museum of Art (2003), Kunsthalle, Bremen (2006), Essl Museum, Klosterneuburg (2008), Fondation Beyeler, Riehen (2009-2010).<\/font><\/p>\n
