Dal 13 novembre al 16 dicembre 2012 la Fondazione Nicola Trussardi presenta Rubble and Revelation – Rivelazioni e Rovine<\/i><\/b>, a cura di Massimiliano Gioni, la prima grande mostra personale di Cyprien Gaillard<\/b> in un’istituzione italiana. <\/span><\/p>\n

A ospitare il nuovo progetto dell’artista francese è il panificio militare della Caserma XXIV Maggio<\/b>, affascinante gioiello di architettura industriale edificato in stile neo-romanico nel 1898 e dismesso nel 2005 dopo essere stato utilizzato per più di un secolo per la produzione di pane per tutte le caserme della Lombardia e dopo aver garantito il sostentamento all’intera città di Milano durante la Seconda guerra mondiale. <\/span><\/p>\n

Cyprien Gaillard<\/b> (Parigi, 1980) in pochi anni si è affermato nel panorama internazionale come uno degli artisti più promettenti della sua generazione: ha ricevuto alcuni tra i più prestigiosi riconoscimenti per artisti emergenti, quali il Premio per la Giovane Arte della Galleria Nazionale di Berlino <\/b>(2011) e il Premio Marcel Duchamp <\/b>del Centre Georges Pompidou di Parigi (2010); ha già esposto nei più celebri musei del mondo con mostre e progetti personali – al Centre Pompidou di Parigi<\/b> e alla Tate Modern di Londra<\/b>, tra gli altri – e collettive – all’Hamburger<\/b> Bahnhof di Berlino<\/b>, all’Hirshhorn<\/b> Museum and Sculpture Garden di Washington<\/b>, al MoMA di New York<\/b>, al New Museum di New York<\/b> – e ha preso parte alle maggiori kermesse internazionali, tra cui la Biennale di Venezia<\/b>, la Biennale di Gwangju<\/b> e la Biennale di Berlino<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Archeologo delle rovine della modernità, Cyprien Gaillard esplora il mondo a caccia di monumenti della nostra epoca che hanno perso la loro aura e la loro capacità simbolica, e con la precisione di un ricercatore ne documenta la vita e il progressivo degrado. Come un nomade si sposta da un continente all’altro, imbattendosi in macerie e relitti che immortala con fotografie, video, sculture e collage, sintesi di un’ossessione per la poesia della distruzione.<\/span><\/p>\n

Con lo sguardo del documentarista e un’estetica cruda e spettacolare, Cyprien Gaillard riflette sui temi della distruzione e del decadimento – oltre che della decadenza – che seguono alle trasformazioni sociali e culturali. Ogni rivoluzione e cambiamento ha radici profonde e lontane nel tempo, che l’artista evidenzia creando sottili fili di collegamento tra passato e presente, tra culture e contesti differenti segnati da trasformazioni violente e manifestazioni di disintegrazione. Quella di Gaillard è una ricerca sull’iconoclastia, sulla perenne riscrittura della storia, sul vandalismo e il potere delle immagini, che diventa ancora più di attualità nel nostro presente agitato da proteste di strada e rivoluzioni di piazza.<\/span><\/p>\n

L’architettura, così come i simboli commerciali del mondo globalizzato e le effigi del potere sono elementi che affascinano Gaillard per la loro capacità di influenzare profondamente i comportamenti umani. Edifici modernisti, periferie degradate, ruderi di torri e grattacieli, fortezze e bunker militari fanno da sfondo a una Storia naturale della distruzione<\/em> (per citare i saggi del celebre scrittore tedesco W.G. Sebald sulle devastazioni prodotte dai bombardamenti aerei durante la Seconda guerra mondiale), all’interno della quale Gaillard mette l’accento sulle dinamiche che regolano le relazioni sociali, sui rapporti tra individuo e gruppo – in particolare nelle sottoculture giovanili di bande e tribù metropolitane – dove categorie quali la libertà e il diritto di scelta cessano di valere e tutto sembra muoversi come guidato dalla forza della massa.<\/span><\/p>\n

Da tutto questo nasce il progetto Rubble and Revelation<\/i> – Rivelazioni e Rovine<\/i><\/b> per la Fondazione Nicola Trussardi. All’interno degli spazi carichi di memoria del panificio militare della Caserma XXIV Maggio Cyprien Gaillard<\/b> ci conduce attraverso la sua suggestiva visione dei relitti del nostro tempo: con un crescendo continuo di tensioni e sovrapposizioni, video, fotografie, immagini e suoni creano un percorso in cui si alternano esplosioni e silenzi, devastazione e contemplazione.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Con Rubble and Revelation – Rivelazioni e Rovine<\/i> la Fondazione Nicola Trussardi continua la sua attività nomade che dal 2003 la porta alla continua esplorazione di Milano, per riscoprire e valorizzare grazie alle visioni dell’arte contemporanea gioielli dimenticati e spazi preziosi nascosti nel cuore della città. Dopo le importanti mostre personali di Michael Elmgreen & Ingar Dragset, Darren Almond, Maurizio Cattelan, John Bock, Urs Fischer, Anri Sala, Paola Pivi, Martin Creed, Pawel Althamer, Peter Fischli e David Weiss, Tino Sehgal, Tacita Dean, Paul McCarthy e Pipilotti Rist, la Fondazione Nicola Trussardi è ora orgogliosa di presentare per la prima volta in Italia una grande mostra personale di Cyprien Gaillard.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

From 13 November to 16 December, the Fondazione Nicola Trussardi is presenting Rubble and Revelation<\/i><\/b>; curated by Massimiliano Gioni, it will be the first major solo exhibition by Cyprien Gaillard <\/b>in Italy. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The French artist’s new project will be housed in the military bakery of Caserma<\/b> XXIV Maggio<\/b>, a fascinating gem of industrial architecture built in Romanesque Revival style in 1898 and closed in 2005, after having been used for over a century to supply bread to all the military complexes in Lombardy, and after nourishing the entire city of Milan during World War II. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In just a few years, Cyprien Gaillard<\/b> (Paris, 1980) has emerged as one of the most interesting artists of his generation, winning highly prestigious awards such as the Prize for Young Art <\/b>from the National Gallery in Berlin<\/b> (2011) and the Marcel<\/b> Duchamp<\/b> Prize<\/b> from Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris (2010); he has already exhibited in the world's most respected museums, with solo shows and projects (at Centre Pompidou in Paris<\/b> and Tate Modern in London<\/b>, among others) and in group shows (at Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin<\/b>, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington<\/b>, MoMA in New York<\/b>, and the New Museum in New York<\/b>); and has taken part in leading international events such as the Venice Biennale<\/b>, the Gwangju Biennale<\/b> and the Berlin Biennale<\/b>.<\/p>\n

\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tLike an archeologist probing the wreckage of modernity, Cyprien Gaillard travels the world looking for monuments of our era that have lost their aura and symbolic power, and with the precision of a research scientist, he documents their life and gradual disappearance. He roams nomadically from continent to continent, encountering ruins and relics that are immortalized in photos, videos, sculptures, and collages which convey his obsession with the poetry of decay.<\/p>\n

\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWith the gaze of a documentary maker and a dramatically raw aesthetic, Cyprien Gaillard reflects on the destruction—as well as decadence—that follow social and cultural transformations. Gaillard’s work is a study of iconoclasm, vandalism and the power of images: the artist traces the ways in which history is perennially rewritten, highlighting subtle links between past and present, and between different cultures and contexts marked by violent transformations and signs of disintegration—an area of research that has grown all the more topical in this era of street protests and popular uprisings.<\/p>\n

\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tArchitecture, with its globalized commercial symbols and its effigies of power, is a discipline that fascinates Gaillard because of its ability to deeply influence human behavior. Modernist buildings, rundown neighborhoods on the outskirts of town, crumbling highrises and skyscrapers, and military fortresses and bunkers serve as the setting for a “Natural History of Destruction” (to cite the essays by the German writer W.G. Sebald on the devastation produced by air raids during World War II); within it, Gaillard highlights the dynamics that govern social interaction, the relationship between the individual and the group—specifically, in the youth subcultures of urban gangs and tribes—where categories such as freedom and the right to choose no longer apply, and everything seems to happen as if guided by mass will. <\/p>\n

\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tAll of these forces can be found in the project Rubble and Revelation<\/i><\/b> for the Fondazione Nicola Trussardi. Inside the spaces of the Caserma XXIV Maggio<\/b> military bakery, with their patina of memories, Cyprien Gaillard<\/b> leads us through his evocative vision of the ruins of our time: in a constant crescendo of juxtapositions and layerings, videos, photographs, images, and sounds trace a path that weaves between explosions and silences, devastation and contemplation. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
