<\/font>Dal 13 marzo al 17 giugno 2012, la Fondazione Stelline di Milano ospita la grande personale di Marlene Dumas che presenta 15 opere recenti e inedite, alcune delle quali pensate e realizzate appositamente per lo spazio milanese.<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/font>La mostra, organizzata e promossa dalla Fondazione Stelline, propone i nuovi lavori di Marlene Dumas<\/span> – nata in Sudafrica e olandese di adozione – che rivelano l’interesse costante dell’artista per la dialettica tra l’elemento fisico e quello metafisico. Benché la maggior parte dei suoi “modelli” siano icone, o frammenti residui, della cultura cristiana<\/st1:personname>, il crocefisso e la Pietà<\/st1:personname> non sono soltanto simboli religiosi ma segni universali in cui la fede si unisce alla tragedia, e l’amore interagisce con il dolore.<\/o:p><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/font>La storia della Fondazione Stelline e alcuni capolavori conservati al Castello Sforzesco sono stati fonte d’ispirazione per le nuove opere qui esposte. <\/span>Marlene Dumas<\/span><\/st1:personname> <\/span>è convinta che non si possa distruggere il passato, in quanto esso è sempre presente, <\/span>così come lo spirito delle ‘Stelline’ che continua a vivere all’interno dei luoghi. Il confronto con questi temi è, quindi, <\/span>un approfondimento della sua autonoma ricerca ed insieme un omaggio alla storia e alla tradizione artistica della nostra città.<\/o:p><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font>In mostra saranno visibili alcuni dipinti della recente serie “Forsaken”, centrata sull’immagine del Cristo crocifisso e del rapporto fra Padre e Figlio, mentre quelli inediti vertono piuttosto sulle figure della Madre e dei figli a cui dà la vita, esplicate nelle immagini di figure femminili, tratte dagli archivi dell’ex collegio delle Stelline, e nei ritratti di Pier Paolo Pasolini, di sua madre Susanna e di Anna Magnani grande interprete di “Mamma Roma”.<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/font>L’esposizione, <\/span>curata<\/span> da Giorgio Verzotti<\/st1:personname><\/span>, nasce da un progetto ideato da Camillo Fornasieri<\/st1:personname>, Alessandra Klimciuk, Jolie van Leeuwen, Pasquale Leccese<\/st1:personname> ed è promossa e organizzata dalla Fondazione Stelline<\/st1:personname>,<\/span> con il patrocinio della Regione Lombardia, del Comune di Milano, della Provincia di Milano e il supporto del Regno dei Paesi Bassi<\/span> e del Mondriaan Fund, Amsterdam.<\/o:p><\/b><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

The show presents 15 recent and previously unexhibited works by one of the best-known and most highly regarded contemporary artists.<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

<\/font>From 13 March to 17 June 2012, the Fondazione Stelline, Milan, will host a major solo show by Marlene Dumas and present 15 recent and new works conceived by for this specific exhibition space.<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Organized and promoted by Fondazione Stelline this exhibition presents the latest works of Marlene Dumas, South African by birth but Dutch by adoption, which reveal the artist’s constant interest in the dialectic between the physical and metaphysical element. Even though most of her “models” are icons or residual fragments of the Christian culture, the crucifix and the Pietà are not exclusively religious symbols but universal signs in which faith is combined with tragedy and love interacts with grief.<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The history of the Fondazione Stelline and some works in the Castello Sforza collection are sources of inspiration for the new works exhibited here. Marlene Dumas is convinced that the past is always present and therefore cannot be destroyed, just as the spirit of the girls known as “stelline<\/i>” goes on living inside their former orphanage. Addressing these themes thus involves both a continuation of the artist’s personal quest and a tribute to Milan’s history and artistic tradition.<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

While the show will also include some paintings from the recent “Forsaken” series focusing on the image of Christ Crucified and relationship between Father and Son, the previously unexhibited works are concerned rather with the figures of the mother and the child. Inspired by images of the archives of the old Stelline orphanage and portraits of Pier Paolo Pasolini, his mother Susanna, and Anna Magnani, the great star of Mamma Roma<\/i>.<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

Curated by Giorgio Verzotti and based on a project developed by Camillo Fornasieri, Alessandra Klimciuk, Jolie van Leeuwen and Pasquale Leccese, the exhibition is organized and held by the Fondazione Stelline under the patronage of <\/span>the Lombardy Regional Government,<\/span> the Milan City Council and the Province of Milan with support by <\/span>the Kingdom of the Netherlands and<\/span><\/em> <\/span>the Mondrian Fund, Amsterdam.<\/o:p><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/font>The internationally acclaimed artist Marlene Dumas was born in Cape Town, South Africa, in 1953. In 1976 she moved to Haarlem, Netherlands, to study at the Atelier ’63 art school, and then to Amsterdam where she studied psychology, and currently lives and works. In 1983 Paul Andriesse organized her first solo exhibition in Amsterdam, and at the beginning of the 1980s she started to show her works in many European galleries and public venues. Dumas participated in numerous exhibitions, including Documenta IX (1992), the Johannesburg Biennial (1995), the Venice Biennale (sharing the Dutch Pavilion with Maria Roosen and Marijke van Warmerdam) and had solo shows at the Philadelphia ICA (1992), Tate Gallery in London(1996), Centre Pompidou in Paris (2001), the Art Institute of Chicago (2003), the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art and the MoMa, New York (2008). Her works have been shown in leading international museums. Marlene Dumas is represented in important private and public collections.<\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n
