\t<\/span>\"pipilotti_tumb20newsletter\"Dal 9 novembre al 18 dicembre 2011<\/span><\/strong> la  Fondazione Nicola Trussardi presenta Parasimpatico<\/span><\/i><\/strong>, a cura di Massimiliano Gioni, la prima grande mostra personale di Pipilotti Rist <\/span><\/strong>in un’istituzione italiana. <\/span>A fare da sfondo al nuovo progetto dell’artista svizzera è il <\/font>Cinema Manzoni<\/span><\/strong>, per più di cinquant’anni una delle sale cinematografiche più importanti della città di Milano e chiusa al pubblico dal 2006.<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Pipilotti Rist <\/span><\/strong>è una delle voci più autorevoli e anticonformiste dell’arte di oggi: ha esposto con mostre personali <\/span><\/strong>nei più celebri musei del mondo – tra cui il MoMA <\/span><\/strong>di New York e il Centre Pompidou<\/span><\/strong> di Parigi – e ha preso parte alle maggiori kermesse internazionali, tra cui la Biennale<\/span><\/strong><\/st1:personname> di Venezia<\/span><\/strong>, quella di Berlino, Sydney <\/span><\/strong>e Lione<\/span><\/strong>. Nel 2009 ha<\/st1:metricconverter> partecipato al Festival del Cinema di Venezia con il suo primo lungometraggio Pepperminta.<\/p>\n

\tPer Pipilotti Rist le immagini video sono la proiezione di desideri ed emozioni<\/span><\/strong>, una nuova forma di vita organica che lo spettatore può percepire non solo con gli occhi ma anche e soprattutto con il corpo<\/span><\/strong>. Spesso nascoste in luoghi inaspettati – toilette, bottiglie di liquore, conchiglie e borsette da signora – o proiettate su superfici suggestive – soffitti di chiese o giganteschi schermi televisivi – le sue installazioni sono esplorazioni sensoriali, esperienze totalizzanti dove la distanza fisica e psicologica con lo spettatore è completamente annullata. Nei viaggi visivi di Pipilotti Rist gli spettatori si ritrovano spesso in spazi dalle proporzioni stravolte, ridotti a piccoli lillipuziani di fronte a immagini gigantesche che esaltano la sensazione del ricordo infantile di un mondo puro, dove la corporeità sembra riconciliarsi con la razionalità e dove la sensualità acquista una dimensione quasi spirituale, a tratti venata di ironia e malinconia.<\/p>\n

\tLa porta d’accesso <\/span><\/strong>ai lavori di Pipilotti Rist è la nostra parte emozionale<\/span><\/strong>, quella che reagisce in modo involontario agli stimoli che vengono dall’esterno. Da queste considerazioni deriva la scelta del titolo Parasimpatico<\/span><\/em> per la sua mostra con la Fondazione Nicola<\/st1:personname> Trussardi: con il suo tipico senso dell’umorismo, Pipilotti Rist fa riferimento a quella branca del sistema nervoso che presiede le funzioni corporee involontarie, che stimolano la quiete, la digestione, il rilassamento, il riposo e l’immagazzinamento di energia.<\/p>\n

\tCome nelle sue precedenti installazioni, questo nuovo progetto ideato per l'ex Cinema Manzoni<\/span><\/strong>, combina lavori vecchi e nuovi con l'obiettivo di trasformare l'ex Cinema in un grande organismo vivente<\/span><\/strong>, mescolando cinema e televisione, allucinazioni e immagini ad alta definizione<\/span><\/strong>. Con Parasimpatico<\/span><\/em> Pipilotti Rist crea per gli ambienti sontuosamente decorati del Manzoni – dalla hall allo scalone d’ingresso, dalla platea al bar – una nuova pelle di immagini, un avvolgente carosello di suoni, luci e colori che restituisce a quella che fu la più prestigiosa sala cinematografica della città di Milano un fascino magico e gioioso, e le regala l’ultimo sussulto vitale prima che cambi per sempre. La mostra di Pipilotti Rist rappresenta un'occasione unica e imperdibile per vedere gli spazi dell’ex Cinema Manzoni nella loro originaria bellezza, dopo cinque anni di chiusura<\/span><\/strong>. <\/p>\n

\tCostruito e inaugurato nel 1950 su progetto dell’architetto Alziro Bergonzo, il Cinema Manzoni è parte di un imponente edificio concepito per ospitare negozi e attività commerciali di lusso in via Manzoni, nel cuore di Milano. Con una superficie di oltre 5.000 metri quadrati<\/st1:metricconverter> <\/span><\/strong>riccamente decorati e affrescati, un’enorme sala di 1.400 posti a sedere<\/span><\/strong>, e una programmazione rigorosamente di prima visione<\/span><\/strong>, il Manzoni viene immediatamente riconosciuto come il cinema più elegante della città<\/span><\/strong>, tanto da essere più volte scelto come location per importanti film quali Cronaca di un amore <\/span><\/em>di Michelangelo Antonioni (1950) e La signora senza camelie<\/span><\/em>, sempre di Antonioni (1952). Nel 1955 è il primo cinema in Italia – e il terzo al mondo – a dotarsi del Cinerama, l’innovativo sistema di proiezione panoramico a tre schermi. Grazie a queste caratteristiche uniche, negli oltre cinquant’anni di attività il Cinema Manzoni è stato una delle più importanti sale cinematografiche della città di Milano e di tutto il territorio nazionale, fino alla sua definitiva chiusura al pubblico il 25 settembre 2006<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\tCon Parasimpatico<\/span><\/em> la Fondazione Nicola<\/st1:personname> Trussardi continua la sua attività nomade con cui dal 2003 esplora Milano, riscoprendo e valorizzando con l’arte contemporanea luoghi dimenticati e gioielli preziosi nascosti nel cuore della città. Dopo le importanti mostre personali di Michael Elmgreen & Ingar Dragset, Darren Almond, Maurizio Cattelan, John Bock, Urs Fischer, Anri Sala, Paola Pivi, Martin Creed, Pawel Althamer, Peter Fischli and David Weiss, Tino Sehgal, Tacita Dean e Paul McCarthy, la Fondazione Nicola<\/st1:personname> Trussardi è ora orgogliosa di presentare questo nuovo grande progetto di Pipilotti Rist, che partecipa alla serie di eventi organizzati nel 2011 per festeggiare il Centenario del Gruppo Trussardi.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Elisabeth Charlotte Rist è nata a Grabs, in Svizzera, nel 1962. Vive e lavora a Zurigo e a Somerset, Gran Bretagna.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Da bambina ha scelto di usare l’originale nome Pipilotti, che mette insieme il nomignolo Lotti, diminutivo di Charlotte, e Pippi, da Pippi Calzelunghe, il personaggio di Astrid Lindgren con cui sentiva di avere molto in comune.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Finalista dell’Hugo Boss Prize del Guggenheim Museum di New York nel 1998, nel 2009 ha<\/st1:metricconverter> vinto il Joan Miró Prize, indetto dalla Fundació Joan Miró di Barcellona.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

I suoi video e le sue installazioni sono stati esposti in mostre personali nelle principali istituzioni internazionali, tra cui la Hayward Gallery<\/st1:personname> di Londra (2011), il Museum of Contemporary Art di Tokyo e la Fundació Joan<\/st1:personname> Miró di Barcellona (2010), il KIASMA di Helsinki (2009), il Museum of Modern Art di New York (2008), il Centre Georges Pompidou di Parigi (2007) e il Museo Nacional de Arte Reina Sofía di Madrid (2001). From 9 November to 18 December 2011<\/span><\/strong>, the Fondazione Nicola Trussardi is presenting Parasimpatico<\/span><\/i><\/strong>, curated by Massimiliano Gioni, the first major solo exhibition by Pipilotti Rist<\/span><\/strong> in Italy<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place>. \u2028\u2028<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The setting for the Swiss artist’s new project is the former Cinema Manzoni<\/span><\/strong>, which for over fifty years was one of the most important movie theaters in Milan<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>, and has been closed to the public since 2006.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Pipilotti Rist <\/span><\/strong>is one of the most highly respected, unconventional voices in art today: she has had   solo shows <\/span><\/strong>in the world’s best-known museums—including MoMA<\/span><\/strong> in New York and Centre Pompidou <\/span><\/strong>in Paris—and has participated in major international events such as the Venice Biennale <\/span><\/strong>and the biennials of Berlin, Sydney <\/span><\/strong>and Lyon<\/span><\/strong>. In 2009 she presented her first feature-length film, Pepperminta<\/span><\/em>, at the Venice Film Festival. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Floating visions, vibrant, psychedelic colors, hypnotic soundtracks, sensuality and ethereality are some of the main ingredients in the world of Pipilotti Rist, which lies at the border between dreams and reality. Her luxuriant videos and multimedia installations explore human sexuality and media culture with a playful, provocative blend of fantasy and everyday life, with images in movement transforming familiar subjects, themes and places into fascinating kaleidoscopes.<\/p>\n

\tFor Pipilotti Rist, video images are a projection of desires and emotions<\/span><\/strong>, a new form of organic life that viewers can perceive not just with their eyes but with their bodies<\/span><\/strong>. Often hidden in unexpected places—toilets, liquor bottles, seashells and handbags—or projected onto evocative surfaces—church ceilings or giant television screens—her installations are explorations of the senses, all-enveloping experiences in which all physical and psychological distance from the viewer is abolished. In Rist’s visual journeys, viewers often find themselves in spaces with topsy-turvy proportions, reduced to lilliputian scale before giant images that heighten the sensation of childhood memories of a pure world, where corporeality seems reconciled with rationality and where sensuality takes on an almost spiritual dimension, sometimes tinged with irony and melancholy.<\/p>\n

\tThe gateway<\/span><\/strong> into Pipilotti Rist’s work is our emotional side<\/span><\/strong>, the part of us that reacts involuntarily to external stimuli. This observation inspired the title for her show with the Fondazione Nicola Trussardi, Parasimpatico<\/span><\/em>: with her usual sense of humor, Pipilotti Rist is referring to the division of the nervous system that governs the body’s involuntary functions, such as digestion, relaxation, rest and energy storage.<\/p>\n

\tLike her previous installations, this project conceived for the former Cinema Manzoni <\/span><\/strong>combines old and new work, with the objective of transforming the former theater into a huge living creature, mingling cinema and television, hallucinations and high-definition images<\/span><\/strong>. In Parasimpatico<\/span><\/em>, Pipilotti Rist wraps the sumptuously decorated spaces of the Manzoni—from the lobby to the grand staircase, and from the auditorium to the bar—in a new skin of images, an all-enveloping carousel of sound, light, and color that restores a joyous magic to what was once Milan’s most prestigious movie theater, in a final flutter of life before its definitive transformation. This exhibition by Pipilotti Rist will be a unique opportunity to see the spaces of the former Cinema Manzoni in their original beauty, after five years of closure<\/span><\/strong>. <\/p>\n

\tDesigned by architect Alziro Bergonzo and opened in 1950, the former Cinema Manzoni is part of a stately edifice conceived to house shops and commercial venues on Via Manzoni, in the heart of Milan<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>. With a surface area of over 5000 square meters<\/st1:metricconverter><\/span><\/strong>, richly decorated and frescoed, an enormous 1400-seat auditorium<\/span><\/strong>, and showing only first-run films<\/span><\/strong>, the Manzoni immediately came to be seen as the most elegant movie theater in the city<\/span><\/strong>, and was used as a location for important films such as Michelangelo Antonioni’s Story of a Love Affair<\/span><\/em>  (1950) and The Lady Without Camelias<\/span><\/em> (1952). In 1955 it became the first movie theater in Italy<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region>, and the third in the world, to introduce Cinerama, an innovative three-screen panoramic projection system. These unique features made the Cinema Manzoni one of the most remarkable movie theaters in Milan<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> and in the entire country for over fifty years, until it definitively closed on 25 September 2006<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\tWith Parasimpatico<\/span><\/em>, the Fondazione Nicola Trussardi continues its nomadic exploration of Milan<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>, rediscovering forgotten places and hidden treasures in the heart of the city and bringing them back to life through contemporary art. Elisabeth Charlotte Rist was born in Grabs, Switzerland<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> in 1962. She lives and works in Zurich<\/st1:city> and Somerset<\/st1:city>, United Kingdom<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

As a child, she decided to adopt the unconventional name Pipilotti, which combines Lotti, a nickname for Charlotte<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>, with Pippi Longstocking, the Astrid Lindgren’s character with whom she strongly identified.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n
